"a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit" (James 2:15-16 NKJV)

New and Old Testament
The New Testament sometimes called the Greek
Testament or Greek Scriptures, and sometimes also
New Covenant which is the literal translation of the Greek,
is the name given to the final portion of the Christian Bible.
It was written by various authors after c. 45 AD and before c.
140 AD. Its books were gradually collected into a single volume
over a period of several centuries. The New Testament is more or
less the root of the Christian religion, which has played a
major role in shaping modern Western morality and culture.
The Old Testament or the Hebrew Scriptures (also called the Hebrew Bible) constitutes the first major part of the Bible used by Christians. It is usually divided into the categories of law, history, poetry (or wisdom books) and prophecy. All of these books were written before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, who is the subject of the subsequent Christian New Testament. The Bible used by Jesus is the Old Testament, specifically according to Luke 24:44-49: "written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms ... the scriptures". According to historians, the Old Testament was composed between the 5th century BC and the 2nd century BC, though parts of it, such as the Torah, and Song of Deborah (Judges 5), date back much earlier. In between the New and Old Testament were the rise on Greek culture and the domination of the Roman Empire. Palestine was under the Roman domination at that time. There is a gap of 300 years between the return of the Hebrews to their homeland from exile in Babylon and the beginning of the New Testament. The New testament did not start not until the death of Jesus Christ. The Old Testament conceal the New Testament and the New Testament revealed the Old Testament. The old testament was mediated by Moses and the new was mediated by Jesus Christ. The old was established at Sinai. The new covenant is made also with the two houses of Israel (Hebrews 8 is source for this letter) For where a TESTAMENT is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a TESTAMENT is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first TESTAMENT was dedicated without blood. (Hebrews 9:16-18) |
